As an important approach to enhance a country’s soft power, Public Diplomacy hasbecome a hot issue among political arena and academia. It is widely acknowledged byresearchers that Public Diplomacy is essential to state image and bilateral relations.Sino-U.S. relation is one of the most important relations. Since China’s comprehensivestrength has been grown significantly, how Sino-U.S. relation develops will probablyorient to the future directions all across the world. However, divergences do exist betweenthe two nations due to cultural, political and historical reasons. American natives arebiased and prejudiced against China. Therefore, it is imperative for China to apply PublicDiplomacy to the U.S., revealing itself objectively in order to solicit American publicopinion. This will make American foreign policies tilt toward a stable Sino-U.S. relationand ultimately China will realize the maximization of national interests. Under theframeworks of Public Diplomacy, the thesis analyzes Sino-U.S. diplomatic practices at thebeginning of21stcentury, discusses its motivation, briefly evaluates its achievements andproblems and finally brings up some preliminary suggestions for its core domains anddevelopmental path.
