Study Of China’s Public Diplomacy In The New Era

Since China adopted the reform and opening policy, China’s comprehensive national strength has been increasing and China’s international status improving steadily. China has gained the support and recognition of more and more countries. But at the same time, misleading public opinions about China being a threat also arise in the international community, In such unfavorable conditions, China has an urgent need to build its international image, gain a bigger say in international affairs to guarantee its peaceful development. Public diplomacy can just meet all the needs of the country in the new era. Public diplomacy is conducted by governments through dealings with non-government entities in various cultural, education communication activities. It can promote national influence and win more international recognition.Since the beginning of the new era, public diplomacy has become an important aspect of China’s overall diplomacy policy. With the success of the "Olympic Games diplomacy" and the "World Expo diplomacy", a new wave of Chinese public diplomacy is rising, which greatly improves China’s international image and promotes China’s international influence. Now the Report of the 18th Party Congress has clearly requested to advance public diplomacy and cultural and educational exchanges. The general secretary Xi Jinping has also proposed "the Belt and Road" strategy in which public diplomacy plays a more and more significant role in upgrading Chinese soft power.This thesis studies China’s public diplomacy events in the new era. Based on current researches of public policy and its rich connotations, the thesis traces the development of China’s public diplomacy, summarizes the significance of conducting public diplomacy in China, analyzes the main forms of public diplomacy practice, points out the main problems with China’s public diplomacy and the corresponding counter-measures, and puts forward a new way of developing China’s public diplomacy, trying to explore how to maximize the function of public diplomacy in China’s development and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
