As the traditional heat exchange equipment, shell and tube heat exchanger has been widely used in many industrial sectors, especially in petroleum, chemical, energy and other industries.In the recent years, with the emergence of new heat exchangers, shell and tube heat exchanger faces many challenges. But shell and tube heat exchanger still plays the leading role in process industry, because of its unique advantages, such as simple structure, processing capacity, reliable operation etc.The traditional design of shell and tube heat exchanger need complicated and repeated calculation to process parameters, structure parameters etc. Especially for condenser and reboiler with phase change heat transfer, heat transfer process is much more complex than the single-phase fluid, due to the changes in state of matter, the diversity of the actual working conditions. Designers waste much time and effort, the design quality is not high. With the continuous development of science and technology, the computer has high speed, high precision and high efficiency, the designers increasingly turn to computer-aided design. Therefore, basing on the original computer-aided design system of shell and tube heat exchanger, the computer-aided design system about condenser and reboiler of shell and tube was programmed.The research and development about computer aided design of shell and tube heat exchanger in both local and foreign were summarized, some problems were simply analysed. The process computational formulas of shell and tube condenser and reboiler were detailed summarized and concluded in detail. Vapor-liquid equilibrium calculations and specific enthalpy calculation of the condenser and reboiler were summarized, the practical method of calculating was choosed.The computer-aided design system of shell and tube heat exchanger including phase change was developed again by Visual Studio.NET2008and SQL Sever2008. Because Visual Studio.NET2008has user-friendly interface, SQL Sever2008has the advantage of the efficient storage of data. The system is made up of the physical data, heat exchanger design and heat exchanger checking. Some programs were added to the original system, such as the vapor-liquid equilibrium calculation and the physical property calculation of condenser and reboiler in the physical data module, the design of condenser and reboiler in heat exchanger design module, the checking of condenser and reboiler in heat exchanger checking module.Three engineering projects were caculated in detail by using the software, including the ordinary floating head that condensed outside and inside and horizontal thermal siphon reboiler. By comparison with the manual calculation results, the relative error was very small. Finally, the causes of the error were briefly analysised. Therefore the computer-aided design system of shell and tube heat exchanger including phase change is practical.
