At present, There is a big gap exists between the designing and manufacturing capability of domestic CNC machine tools and the international advanced level, and high-grade machine tools dependent on import. One of the fundamental reasons for the situation is the lack of the advanced digital and intelligent designing methods. So, it is important to research the digital designing methods of digital CNC machine tools. As the essential part of the machine tools, feed system has particularly urgent need to digital designing.In this paper, the digital design methods were used in the feed system design and the digital design software system to feed system was researched and developed in order to meet the urgent needs of digital design on CNC machine tools. Basing on the functional of software system, the overall design of the software was made with the logical structure, function module and data flow diagram. In order to make the designing of feed system automatic, the design and calculate methods of the feed system were researched, and the detailed process was obtained. Based on the research, the factual knowledge and regularity in the designing process of feed system were collected widely and expressed with production representation. Based on the knowledge expression, the knowledge basement was created, and the inference engine was designed with the Forward Reasoning Method, which made full use of the collected knowledge to ensure the rationality of the feed system design.According to above achievement, the database was established and the digital designing software system for the feed system of CNC machine tools was developed with C#and SQL Sever2005.And finally, the application example was presented to verify the feasibility of the software.
