Salen type lanthanide complexes are currently of great interest not only becauseof their fascinating variety of structures but also their potential applications in thefields of luminescence, magnetism and catalysis. In this paper, five series oftwenty-three salen type lanthanide complexes have been designed and synthesizedthrough N,N’-bis(salicylidene)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine with various lanthanide salts.The luminescence, magnetic and powder SHG properties of these complexes wereinvestigated and discussed. The conclusions are listed as following:The reactions of H2L with Ln(OAc)3·6H2O afforded complexes1–14([Ln2L3(CH3OH)][Ln=Pr (1), Nd (2), Sm (3), Eu (4), Gd (5), Tb (6), Dy (7), Ho (8)and Er (9)] and [Ln1Ln2L3(CH3OH)][Ln1Ln2=SmTb (10), EuTb (11), SmGd (12),EuGd (13), TbDy(14)]) with dinuclear structure. The luminescence of complexes3–7and10–14were investigated. Magneric studies indicate complex7is SMM. Thereactions of H2L LnCl3·6H2O afforded1D linear chain structure complexes, namely,[Nd(H2L)(NO3)3MeOH]n(15){[Ln(H2L)Cl2(MeOH)3]Cl·3MeOHn[Ln=Sm (16) andDy (18)],{[Ln(H2L)Cl2(MeOH)3]Cl·2MeOH}n[Ln=Gd (17) and Er (19)] and{[Lu(H2L)Cl3(MeOH)]·2MeOH}n(20). Upon H2L reacted with mixture ofLnCl3·6H2O and Ln(NO3)3·6H2O afforded3D chiral diamond-like topology complexes,namely,{[Ln(H2L)2(NO3)2Cl]·2CH2Cl2}n[Ln=La (21), Ce (22) and Nd (23)]. Thecomplexes15,16and23show luminescence emission.20–23SHG active, and theSHG efficiency, respectively, is0.4,0.5,0.4, and0.3times as much as that of urea.Magneric studies indicate complex18is SCM.
