Precision transmission is widely used as fundamental component in robots, precisionmachine tools, instrumentations, medical apparatus. The development of precisiontransmission, in some degree, represents the level of a country’s machinery industry, andit also promotes the high-end machinery industry. Sine reciprocating steel balltransmission is developed from movable ball-teeth transmission and cycloid steel ballplanetary transmission. It belongs to spatial multi-tooth meshing transmission. It iscompact, strong bearing capacity, silent as ordinary movable ball-teeth transmission, through clearance-adjusting device, the surface of teeth and steel balls can stay contactclosely, insure the accuracy of transmission. Research on the working principle andworking performance of sine reciprocating steel ball transmission have importantsignificance in theory and application of this new type transmission. In this paper, the structure of sine reciprocating steel ball transmission is introduced, the main virtual component is modeled by UG, then assembled. The transmission theoryis studied in detail.According meshing theory, the theoretical and actual profile curvilinear equation ofthe input and output shafts are deduced. The cutting method of input and output shaftsprofile is discussed. The profile curve on the pitch circular column extended surface isanalyzed. The topcutting regulation for profile curve is derived. The kinematics of sine reciprocating steel ball transmission is analyzed, the motionis simulated by ADAMS, the result suggests it performs well. The slide rate is studied, and slide rate corresponding to variations in design parameters is analyzed.According to Hertz theory and compatibility of deformation, the method of calculatecontact forces is discussed, the calculating example is presented. The curve of contactforces is draw, and contact forces corresponding to variations in design parameters areanalyzed. The self-locking characteristic of sine reciprocating steel ball transmission isdiscussed. Using elastohydrodynamic lubrication theory, the minimum thickness of oil on theprofile surface is calculated. The minimum thickness of oil corresponding to variations indesign parameters is analyzed.
