With the rapid development of things networking technology and embeddedapplication technology, and the rapid development of wireless network technology,combined with the GPRS wireless communication technology,the embedded GPS shipoperation tracking system arises at the historic moment. Its main function is to work outthe ship’s position, time, condition, the cabin inside silt, water level information and soon real-time through the wireless network transmitting real-timely to the command andcontrol center, thus it can position and track the ships at sea. This paper mainlyintroduces the research and development process of the vessel operation tracking systembased on GPRS, and the main research contents are as follows:First of all, we illustrate the importance and necessity of the system design from thebackground of the selectede topic and the application of the technology marketsignificance.Beside, we also analyse the development status of the vessel tracking systemat home and abroad.Then it is introduced respectively about the design and implementation of the vesseloperation tracking system terminal’s software and hardware platform. In terms ofhardware design, the resource-rich LPC2368is used in program design, which makes thedesign very simple among the processor and the GPS module, GPRS module, SD card. Itstates in sequence detailedly the selection and characteristics of the main controller, thecharacteristics,interface and data output format of the positioning module, thecharacteristics,structure and interface of GPRS communication module and thecommunication mode and bus protocol of SD card in the vessel operation trackingsystem. In terms of software design, firstly the framework of the whole system is set outby in the form of a state machine, then it introduce in detail the software design processof the GPS positioning information acquisition module, GPRS data transfer module anddata storage module of SD card.Finally the paper gives the debugging process of the whole system as well as theproblems and solutions encountered in debugging. Then the thesis is summarized and pointed out the deficiency existing in the design and the parts need to be improved,which is useful for pointing out the direction for the next step of the future researchwork.
