Under the background of the energy depletion and environmental pollution, the solar energy has become the second largest energy because of its unique advantages including green, environmental protection and safety, and the photovoltaic technology has thus been developing rapidly. Because of the photovoltaic cells are important parts of the solar power systems’research, so how to reduce the cost of the entire system and improve energy efficiency, to achieve the maximum power point tracking is the most important current problems. Although many control methods can successfully track the maximum power point, there are different errors in the tracking speed and accuracy, and some of the control methods are too hard to be achieved in practice because of its complex algorithms. In this paper, we take the grid-connected photovoltaic power generation system as a platform, analyze and compare the important questions that exist in the photovoltaic systems comprehensively. Firstly, we introduced the background and significance of the issues as well as domestic and international development of photovoltaic power generation, and overview the photovoltaic power generation system simply. Then analyze the working principle and output characteristics of the photovoltaic cells, and establish the cell model which is more close to reality and then conduct MATLAB simulation. Next step, we analyze the advantages and disadvantages of common MPPT control methods. In this paper, we propose a new CVT with lookup function, to study it’s algorithm thinking and simulation model carefully, and then take it to simulation. The results show that, this CVT algorithm which based on the Lookup function can make a timely response to environmental mutations, and reduce the power and the system cost.
