Gastric ulcer (GU) is one of the most common peptic ulcers; the researchin recent years has indicated that the helicobacter pylori(Hp)and non-steroidalanti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) ulcer are the most common cause of the GU. Underthe endoscope, the GU can be divided into three phases of disease: the activeperiod (A), the healing period (H), and the scarring period (S); each phase ofdisease can be divided into two stages: stage1and stage2.In traditional Chinesemedical science, GU belongs to the categories like “epigastric pain”,“epigastric upset”,“distention and fullness”,etc. Its main traditionalChinese medical syndrome types are divided into: syndrome of heat stagnationin liver and stomach, syndrome of incoordination between liver and stomach, syndrome of deficient cold of spleen and stomach, syndrome of deficiency ofstomach yin, and syndrome of static blood in stomach collaterals. Objective: To discuss the relationship between the tongue manifestation changeof gastric ulcer(GU) patients and the GU phases, the relationship between thetongue manifestation change of GU patients and the Hp infection, the relationshipbetween the traditional Chinese medical syndrome types and the GU phases, andthe relationship between the traditional Chinese medical syndrome types and theHp infection.Method: To statistically analyze the torque manifestation, the gastroscopicsigns, the Hp infection status and the traditional Chinese medical syndrome typesin169cases what has been endoscopic diagnosed as patients with gastric ulcer.Result:(1) The tongue manifestation in each phase of gastric ulcer is different(P<0.05): among the phases, the active period (A) is given priority to purple-redtongue, yellow greasy coat and white greasy coat; the healing period (H) is givenpriority to pink tongue and thin yellow coat; the scarring period (S) is given priority to dark purple tongue and thin white coat.(2) When the Hp infected, the Hp infection rates of purple-red tongue anddark purple tongue are significantly higher than pink tongue (P<0.01); the Hpinfection rates of thin yellow coat, white greasy coat, yellow thick coat, yellowgreasy coat are higher than thin white coat (P<0.05).(3) The difference of traditional Chinese medical syndrome types canreflect the changes in different phases of gastric ulcer (P<0.01), among them, the syndrome of heat stagnation in liver and stomach can be often seen in theactive period (A), the syndrome of incoordination between liver and stomach canbe often seen in the scarring period (S) and the healing period (H), and thesyndrome of deficient cold of spleen and stomach can be often seen in the activeperiod (A).(4) The Hp infection rates high and low has nothing to do with traditionalChinese medical syndrome types(P>0.05).Conclusion: Observing the tongue manifestation change can reflect the GU diseaseprogression, the HP infection status and estimate the curative effect to acertain extent; it can be used as one of the objective indicators to treat theGU disease, and to better guide the clinical treatment of GU.
