A Comparative Study Of Chinese Proficiency Test (PSC) And The Hong Kong Putonghua Proficiency Test (PSK) Questions

As the biggest mother tongue testing of Chinese, Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi(PSC) became popular among the Hong Kong test takers after it was conducted inHong Kong. Meanwhile, some academic institutions also have designed variousPutonghua tests. Item-type designing is closely related to the target of the test and thecharacteristics of the test takers, and due to different language and social background,Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi (PSK)differs itself from Putonghua tests that developed byHong Kong institutions in terms of views of language testing and item type designing.As nowadays comparison research between Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi and testsdeveloped by Hong Kong institutions is inadequate, this paper is comparing the itemtype of Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi and Putonghua Shuiping Kaoshi which is investedby The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In this paper,6perspective of each test:reading-monosyllable characters, multi-syllable words (or disyllable words), listening,reading aloud, and speaking. This paper will focus on the communicative competenceof language testing and analyze advantages and disadvantages of each test; henceadvices of improvement of each test will also be brought out.
