Lacquer ware crafts, which have been in development for thousands of years, have become the distinguished famous prouducts of Yangzhou, which is the birthplace of lacquer ware made with a wood mold.Even though it had existed for more than two thousand years before Dao Guang dynasty, and it experienced the Golden Age of Kang Yong Qian, Yangzhou Lacquer ware had not reached the reputation of being unique. This situation did not change until the appearance of Lacquer ware Master Lu Kui Sheng. The recognition of Master Lu Kui Sheng" positioned Lacquer ware as a Yangzhou specialty and greatly promoted the popularity of lacquer ware handscrafts.After this, Yanghzou Lacquerware has been associated with the developement of unique features. Hence, Yanghzou Lacquerware has become recognized world wide for it’s distinctive properties.This thesis, through in-depth study of the famous lacquerware master Lu Kui Sheng of Qing Dynasty, as well as the characteristics of his works, summarizes Master Lu Kui Sheng’s artistic style.With the introduction of his special techniques in Lacquer ware handcrafts, this author compares Lu’s techniques with modern Yangzhou Lacquer ware production process, and comes to the conclusion that by mastering ten lacquer ware techniques, Master Lu played an important role in the development of Yangzhou Lacquer ware and made a great contribution.This thesis, based on the study of Master Lu’s background, thoroughly analyzes the factors contributing to his great success, from the perspectives of society, family and individual factors, then further analyzes the influence of Master Lu Kui Sheng on modern Yangzhou lacquerware development, its functionality, modernity, and the direction of training new artists.The author of this article hopes that the analysis of the accomplishments of this ancestor will help and promote the development of today’s traditional handcrafts. To quote Mr. Wang Shi Xiang, the famous intellectual," it is of great help in improving and upgrading Yangzhou Lacquer ware techniques to study the works of Lu Kui Sheng and to compare them with today’s Yangzhou Lacquer ware products."
