This paper focuses on the research of two famous feudal official, excellent poet and royal painter&calligrapher Dong Bangda (1696-1769) and DongGao (1740-1818), who were father and son relation, in earlier and intermediate period of Qing Dynasty. Trailed with their biography, taking their friends-making as background and cored by their works, we take our analysis and discussion on their calligraphy achievements.As famous feudal officials, calligraphers and poets, Dong Bangda and DongGao (whose ancestral home are Fu Chun, in Zhejiang Province now) were favored in QianLong and JiaQing Reign of Qing Dynasty. They employed by South Studio and created lots of painting&calligraphy works which were spread and described in records, collecting by Palace Household Office and now housing in Beijing and Taipei Imperial Palace Museums in sum of500pieces. We always consider their calligraphy works as a typical representation of GuanGe Style, but as some reasons, we still haven’t got some systematic studies with their achievements.Based on the collection of literature&historical data and work imagines, this paper pay its attention on the researching parts as follows, and hoping our work can make a deep and detailed study in calligraphy history of Qing Dynasty.Part One:consulting with biography, we totally studied out their living and friends-making of Dong Bangda and DongGao. Part two:under the whole society background and the progress of calligraphy itself in earlier and intermediate period of Qing Dynasty, we hope to reveal their disciple of calligraphy and shape out the distinguishing features of their works, forming reasons, artistic achievements and the judgments by later generations. And with the comparison analysis between their works in variety of styles and other calligraphers contemporary, we try to re-localize the achievement status of Dong Bangda and DongGao in calligraphy history. Part three:we also take a brief analysis on their achievements in Chinese Landscape Painting, and hoping other scholars would take more attentions on their whole artistic achievements later.In addition, by the full usage of relative materials, this paper makes a precisely collection with Dong Bangda and DongGao’s biography, painting and calligraphy works, articles and poems. We have worked out three appendixes followed (The Timeline of Dong Bangda and DongGao, The Catalog of Dong Bangda and DongGao’s Painting&Calligraphy Works, The Collection of Dong Bangda and DongGao s Prose and Poems), in order to offer an relatively centralized material for other scholars to making deeper studies.
