Wu Changshuo is a modern artist in our country.He had made great achievements in his poetry,painting,seal and calligraphy.These four aspects affected each other,and together formed a kind of overall artistic style that the momentum is majestic,the realm is magnificent and the connotation is rich.The calligraphy which is the base of Wu Changshuo’s overall art had significant effect on the conformation of his artistic style.I Based on lots of pictures and text material and stated from many aspects such as Wu Changshuo’s contacts with his teachers and friends,all styles of calligraphy,the concept of the calligraphy,the causes of the style,the status of his calligraphy in calligraphy history and current significance in order to investigate and study Wu Changshuo’ s calligraphy from multiple perspectives and do a comparative study of Running Script between Wu Changshuo and PuHua.The thesis asserts that Wu Changshuo’ s Regular Script had assimilated Transcribing Buddhism scripturestechnique of writing of Huang Shangu,rubbings in stone inscriptions in Bei Dynasty and the people of Tang Dynasty on the basis of ZhongYou’ s calligraphy and use both square and circular writing way,finally showed freely unadorned,vigorous and graceful artistic style;Wu Changshuo’s running-cursive script was influenced by the knowledge of Tie early,its writing being exquisite and the style being delicate and pretty.When he was around forty years old,Wu Changshuo gradually incorporated into the writing of seal script and changed the previous elegant and delicate style.After 70-80 years old,he melted all kinds of techniques of writing such as seal script,official script,regular script,running script and cursive script in a furnace,showed forceful-vigorous,unrestrained-sophisticated style;Wu Changshuo’s official script stemmed from rubbings in stone inscriptions in Han Dynasty,its techniques of writing had consulted the writing meaning of ZhuanZhou,changing square to round,changing flat to long in structure,obtaining momentum according to the characters,stabilizing in line with the momentum,not confining himself to the rules of row and line in art of composition,and its using ink was especially interesting and varied;Wu Changshuo’ s big seal(order ShiGuwen to the main)begun to take shape when he was around 40 years old,gone away from the original of carving when he was 56-57 years old,formed his own style when he was around 60 years old,became more unrestrained,more brilliant,more exceeded in realm.There were many aesthetic tendencies such as emphasizing momentum,winning with the gas,paying attention to tradition and pursuing classic style strongly in Wu Changshuo’s concept of calligraphy.He learned from modern people in study ways,referred to many people’ s calligraphy and participated in many kinds of activities,innovated sharply and exceeded himself——This is the main reason of he could form his own calligraphy style.Wu Changshuo is a strange peak in the history of Chinese calligraphy.He had done well in regular script,cursive scrip,official script and seal script.At the same time,he had melted the knowledge of Bei and the knowledge of Tie in a furnace.Wu Changshuo’ s powerful calligraphy style which caught up with xia shang zhou,Qin Dynasty and Han Dynasty was been the strong rebel against delicate and feminine aesthetic style since Song Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty.Wu Changshuo’s thoughts of art and road of art have much important reference signification to our creation and study of calligraphy today.
