As a great master of calligraphy at the reign periods of Emperors Qianlong and Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty,Liu Yong's calligraphy style was known at the time with a more strong influence,which had opened up a new realm for the calligraphy style of the Qing Dynasty,and Liu Yong,Weng,Cheng and Tie were called the four major great masters of calligraphy of the Qing Dynasty.Liu Yong had a profound view of the traditional calligraphy culture with the philosophical concept of dialectical unity in his calligraphy,such as black and white,thick and thin,or static and moving.With emphasis on the study of calligraphy book history and the stele study(at the old age),he learnt calligraphy in a diversified manner from the calligraphy book history,the stele to the coexistence of both,which had provided valuable experience for the development of calligraphy.This paper aims to comprehensively comb and deconstruct Liu Yong's calligraphy art style from five parts.In the first chapter,Liu Yong's life resume,research significance,relevant literature review,research ideas,methods and the main views are introduced.In the second part chapter,the social and cultural background of Liu Yong's time is described,which is closely related to the formation of any scholar's style as a necessary objective factor to analyze the case.In the third part chapter,Liu Yong's all calligraphy works are summarized in stages and discussed by calligraphy style,such as the style evolution of regular script in small characters and running script.In the fourth chapter,the causes of the formation of this calligraphy style are analyzed from the perspective of the imperial examination,the calligraphy learning experience,the calligraphy exchange,the official influence and the thought of calligraphy by internal and external combination.In the last chapter,Liu Yong's influence on later calligraphers and modern calligraphy is expounded.In this paper,a further analysis is carried out based on the previous research results,and it is conclude that:Firstly,Liu Yong's calligraphy thinking of seeking changes by leaning from predecessors pay attention to learning and changing,unified character and style,and connotation to express true temperament.Secondly,regular script in small characters is very rich from beauty,nature to ancient.Thirdly,running script has developed from slenderness,richness to vividness.
