Stephen Owen is one of the representative scholar of Western Sinological Researches, his theory of literary thought became widely accepted in China. It is conducive to promote the ability of absorbing overseas scholars’ research results of Chinese literature, and raise the level of domestic literature research.There are some typical phenomena and problems when domestic academic circles accept and research Stephen Owen, which are included in the exchanges of Chinese and foreign literature,"craze for Stephen Owen" is a manifestation of "Sinological attitude"and "non-academic mentality" existing in domestic academic circles for a long time. On one hand, the acceptance and research of Stephen Owen associated with the domestic academic background, such as the "the Rewriting Literary History","Aphasia of Chinese literary criticism","Modern Transformation of China’s Ancient Literature Theory ", so domestic academic circles translate and research Stephen Owen’s work with strong purpose and utilitarian. On the other hand, Owen has been overrated by domestic scholars. These are less professional and doetrinal criticism. We think the center of criticism was shift. Domestic scholars took a wait-and-see attitude toward Stephen Owen’s research, and don’t real absorb and impel his research. This paper argues that the research for overseas scholars, first of all, should keep a healthy academic mentality. Then theoretical research and method research should be relatively complemented. We should attache great importance to the study, which is how overseas scholars use domestic academic resources and method. Study of overseas scholars should take a holistic approach and combined with "small" study, pay attention to the improvement and innovation of ancient literature research, take efforts to promote the development of Ancient Chinese Literature theory research to the comparative poetics.Stephen Owen’s research is not only a impact for domestic academic circles, but motivation. The biggest influence on Chinese academic circles and readers brought by Owen is how to "dig" and "taste" the literary charm and passion in Chinese rich historical and cultural heritage.
