The Analects is a collection of Confucius and his disciples’words. It is compiled by Confucius’ disciples. The Analects is one of The Four Books of China and one of the classics of the Confucian school. The book reflects Confucius’ political views, ethical thoughts, moral concepts and educational principles. Even now, it still influences the behavior and the way of thinking of both domestic and overseas Chinese. This thesis consists of five chapters as follows:Chapter One:IntroductionThis chapter consists of the history of the problem and its importance, the research purpose, literature review, relevant theories and ideas, range of study and research method.Chapter Two:The Importance of the Analects and the Translation History of the Analects in the Western WorldThis chapter accounts Confucius’s life and works, and the importance of the Analects. It also briefly introduces the annotation version of the Analects and the translation history of the Analects in the western world.Chapter Three:The Translation History of the Analects in ThailandThis chapter takes the year of1990as a divide to briefly introduce the translation of the Analects before1990and between1990and2011. Emphasizing the later period, this chapter compares and analyzes the purpose and the characteristics of four Thai full-length translations which were completed after1990.Chapter Four:the Analysis of Thai Full-length Translations of the AnalectsThis chapter analyzes the ways in which culture-loaded words and controversial sentences were translated, and attempts to summarize reasonable ways of translation.Chapter Five:Summary and SuggestionsThis chapter summarizes the research results of this thesis, assesses the value of Thai full-length translations of the Analects, raises suggestions about how to further research and translate the Analects and other classics.Through the analysis and research, I have deepened the understanding of Confucius, the Analects and its translation history. I think all of the four Thai translations have their own importance, yet it is necessary to continue researching on and re-translating the Analects.I spared no efforts to finish this thesis in the hope that it would facilitate future research. I am a graduate student and due to the lack of time, information etc., this thesis has much to improve."Throw out a minnow to catch a whale." Hopefully, the thesis will receive your valuable advice.
