China Nurse Association (CNA), set up in1909in Chongqin, was the first group of Chinese nurses. Thanks to the effort of the founders, it was quickly expanded and sound. During1909to1937, under the relatively stable social environment, it made lots of achievement. It unified Chinese nursing school, nursing qualification exam, nurses" clothes and income level. Besides, it also devoted to upgrading nurses’social status, improving Chinese public hygienic conditions, taking part in the war time rescue work. Nevertheless, nursing care in mercy hospital was a totally western job. It faced a lot of conflicts in China as a new comer. Fortunately, CNA took positive attitude to regulate all these conflicts. It made great efforts to adjust the contradiction of its religion and Chinese common customs, the relationship with Chinese government and other medical associations. Above all, in the almost20years, CNA had made itself a mature civil organization and cultivated excellent nurses for Chinese medical field and social development.
