The Nan Feng exorism dance is an invaluable intangible cultural heritage.Mainly by dancing as its form, its actors and actresses wear masks to play roles andperform stories, which makes it a repository of sight, hearing and moving andendows it with a comprehensive aesthetic character. Since ancient times, the dancehas been passed on and developed based on natural heritage bonds like clan ormentoring relationship. As modernism comes in the20th century with its greatinfluence upon culture, the Nan Feng exorcism dance has suffered from irretrievabledamage and is now confronted with the danger of cultural rupture. This is a commonphenomenon faced by intangible cultural heritage in modern times. In the Chapter IVof the People’s Republic of China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Act, schools shouldprovide relevant education on intangible cultural heritage according to the provisionsof the Education Authorities of the State Council. Therefore, this essay analyzes thesituation of the Nan Feng exorcism dance on campus to find new ways to inheritintangible cultural heritage in modern times, to look for methods of inheritingthrough college education and to offer suggestions.This essay comprises four parts apart from an introduction. First, byanalyzing the nature of the Nan Feng exorcism dance, I will introduce its presentsituation. Second, I shall exhibit the necessity of bring the dance into campusbecause of its unique culture, artistic value the inheritance of intangible culture andthe urgent needs of artistic education in schools. Then, based on great amount ofdetailed first-hand resources gained through the field study and the current conditionof he Nan Feng exorcism dance entering schools I will study the content and formatof its education in school so as to find the crux of the problem. Finally, I will offersome specific suggestions on bringing intangible cultural heritage into schools basedon the policies and regulations of protecting intangible cultural heritage and therequirement as well as features of artistic education.
