Because the appearance of the "Alien" in1979, Hollywood not only reclaimedlong-lost outer space horror style, but also created the classical images of women-Ellen Ripley,who caused a strong reaction of the society. In the following20years,three famous film directors separately directed three sequels separately, achieved afar-ranging social influence and high box office income. As the whole show of thefilm, Ripley had always existed, but the setting of specific role presented a changetrend from layer to layer. The image was affected by the womens movement,meanwhile it created a "heroine" mode, inspired and influenced the setting of femaleimage of American horror film.The first chapter is the introduction part.Describe the research background andpurpose,list the domestic foreign research view and resrarch of the topic,includingthe research methods in three aspects. The second chapter of the thesis sums up thedifferent characteristics of Ripley’s image, through making roughly categorization anddetailed analysis to the image of female in the "Alien" Film Series. The third chapterwill consider and analyze two aspects of the social background of film creation time,as well as the creation course of director and screenwriter, and explore the evolutiontrend of female image in “Alien” Film Series from four aspects which are characterdesign, garment style, the performance style intention and ideology. On the otherhand, it requires a certain period of time to present in movement and ideologicaltrend. Therefore, the fourth chapter selects the1970s,1980s and1990s as the objectof study, combing with the development of American Feminism "second wave" andthe subsequent impact, and compare Ripley image of each movie with the image offemale in contemporaneous horror film. To conclude the previous contrast, the fifthchapter discusses the effect of “Alien” Film Series to female image of Americanhorror film with the help of research results of the Laura Mulvey, Barbara Creed, etc.In the conclusion part, summarizing the research results of thesis, making theconclusions, and putting forward the prospect to the development of the image offemale in the American horror film.
