Film Studies Screenwriter Eileen Chang

In this thesis, major screenplays written by Eileen Chang have been studiedintroductorily, and well explained from the perspective of screenplay textual researchand the theory of screenplay writing.Some comparative study of intertextuality also have been conducted based onEileen Chang’s life story combined with the metaphor in her major literary andscreenplay works. In the conclusion, we proposed an idea that, Eileen Chang hasplayed an unprecedented vanguard role in the exploration of the production of chinesescrewball comedy. Also, Eileen Chang’s main screenplays have been divided into twoperiods: Shanghai period and Hong Kong period, and discussed sequentially by thechronological and geographical order in this paper.
