While reading, theory has become a cliche topic, but that doesn’t mean the study of Zhang’s works have reached the perfect state of its numerous links in the course of, an aesthetic that requires our cumbersome and hard work.Although her works drawn from a narrow, but stylistic diversity, which includes novels, essays, plays, and so on. On the language, whether in Chinese or English, are very good. She is primarily a novelist, and her creation of all,"Legend" period of novels focusing on short stories,novellas subsidiary, is her masterpiece."The legend" was first published in1944, includes10novels, issued in1947when updated, increasing the5story, plus an essay of "the China day and night", I updated to this novel to study text, imagery as the starting point, with "new criticism"close reading, Complemented by traditional methods of social and historical criticism, from both the horizontal and vertical dimensions to explore the imagery description of the legend of the art. Among them, the transverse research focused primarily on the second to the third chapter, focusing on the artistic look at Zhang’s imagery from within the text of the construction method, functional and aesthetic characteristics; Longitudinal research are mainly concentrated in the final chapter of the paper in an effort to drive "the legend" of imagery depicting art embedded in the long river of history of art.This paper is divided into three parts:introduction,body and conclusion.Introduction introduces the uniqueness of Eileen Chang’s works in the history of modern Chinese literature, research status of Zhang’s imagery, I explore ideas and research methods.The body is divided into four chapters.The second chapter reviews the history of the imagery in the history of Chinese of western literary theory criticism category. The third chapter mainly to the "New Criticism" point of view, with the perspective of rhetoric,the text in the imagery is divided into three categories:synesthesia imagery, metaphor and symbolic imagery, and symbolic imagery,take the text as the basis for argument. And analysis of Zhang’s imagery and imagery of Qian Zhongshu in the siege created by different, come to the conclusion that:Zhang’s imagery reflect a delicate graceful female writers; Qian’s imagery reflecting a male scholar learned wisdom. Degree of awareness to the text in this chapter are links to imagery in Eileen Chang’s construction is unique. The fourth chapter explored the utility of imagery, focuses on two aspects:First, the combination of narrative, from the text of the environment description, characterization, the frame work of time and space, etc. to explore its narrative of imagery. Concluded that Zhang’s imagery rendering of the novel environment, enrich characters, or compressed, or extend the story of time and space, thus increasing the thickness of the work. Secondly, the combination of Eileen Chang’s unique personal temperament, special family background and grouth experience, in the broad historical background investigation on causes and manifestations of its bleak aesthetics of the imagery of atmosphere. In the text of chapter5explores the history of the imagery. It mainly includes two aspects:First of all, to traditional imagery depicting art of Eileen Chang’s inheritance, enlightenment and innovation; and, second, by "the legend" and "the border town" in the imagery of comparative studies to probe modern narrative fiction associated with the lyrical art imagery description in the novel. The former focuses on images classical novels, the latter mainly in modern novels.The conclusion summarizes the imagery in Eileen Chang’s art achievements, points out the unique phenomenon of Eileen Chang’s and her significant impact on contemporary literary circles at home and abroad.
