Research On The Transplantation And Transformation Of Hollywood Screwball Comedy In China (1947-1949)

In the early days,the experiments of Chinese films were performed t hrough the imitation of the European and American movies.Chinese fil ms under the nourishment of European and American films and gradu ally possessed Chinese characteristics.In the 1930 s and 1940 s,the Amer ican Hollywood screwballc omedy was very popular.The Chinese film market is very important to the American film industry.As a result,the C hinese comedy has been deeply influenced by the American Hollywood s crewball comedy.From 1947 to 1949,Chinese film creators employed elements in the Hollywood screwball comedy to film the Chinese come dy.When producing the comedy,they also combined their personal life e xperience,the characteristics of the life in Shanghai during that special p eriod,life taste of emerging modern citizens,modernization process,tradi tional family ethics and legal system,and local cultural characteristics.T his has developed movies with strong oriental aesthetics and coincident with Chinese national situations.Consequently,the urban comedy was g enerated,which is a very important chapter of the Chinese movie history.In this article,an attempt is made to reveal the transplantation and t ransformation of the Hollywood screwball comedy in China in terms of the film text and text reading from four aspects.First of all,the historical context in which the screwball comedy is transplanted and transformed is analyzed based on the market,consumption,producing and social backg rounds.Secondly,from the perspective of the artisitc style and narratolog y,The reasons of the comic style,charactor shaping and deep transplanta tion are analyzed.Thirdly,the content and reason of the transformation is analyzed from the perspective of narratology and culture.Finally,from t he perspective of sociology and aesthetics,the artistic contribution and re flection of the transplantation and transformation of the Hollywood scre wball comedy in China is discussed.By the comparison of the Chinese u rban comedy and Hollywood screwball comedy,the style elements of the transplantation and transformation of the Hollywood screwball comedy t o the Chinese urban comedy are particularly explored.Meanwhile,the fu sion of the Chinese urban comedy with the alien comedy style,i.e.Holly wood screwball comedy,and its reflection are discussed.
