The Visual Identify System (VIS) is an information expression system whichunifies various concepts in visual graphics for the purpose of making complexconcepts easily recognizable to the public. Graphics is the information carrier. Thephysical space containing the graphics is the medium of communication andinteraction between the transmitter and the public. Graphics and physical space arethe most important components of VIS; they are critical to the good functionality ofVIS. In general, VIS designers emphasize designing suitable graphics for the availablespace, so the graphics blends well into the space, and expresses the information welland in an aesthetic manner. This is the typical design method, incorporating elementsof transformation and harmony.Actually, in the construction of VIS, methods and conceptions of transformationand harmony can be more flexibly used and reflected. On one hand, graphics act onthe space. On the other hand, graphics can also be extracted from the space, andinteract with the space. VIS built in this interactive mode have greater ornamentalvalue and novelty, and allow a deeper interaction with viewers. However, it is unnecessary to design all VIS in this interactive mode, and aimlesstransformation of the features of the physical space into graphics should be avoided. The theme and orientation of the design should be considered, and the physicalspace summarized and transformed into graphics only when the space has notablefeatures, and the generated graphics express the theme precisely and with goodaesthetic form.In VIS built by the interactive relationship between graphics and space, thegraphics and space harmonize in their unity, because the features of the space arewell-considered. Graphics are nested in the physical space, and the features of thespace are harmonized in the graphics. This strengthens interaction and identificationof the work, promotes its aesthetics, and more effectively communicates with thepublic, producing positive social effects.
