Zouhui-Ren of the Ming Dynasty is absolutely a special social groups.They had been the Ming Dynasty’s Bianhuqimin,then stranded outside the Great Wall for some reasons,and finally were able to return back. Zouhui-Ren was born in the long opposition between Central Dynasty and Northern Minority Government in the Ming Dynasty.In order to gain their positive effect on the frontier defense and ethnic amalgamation, Ming Empire made a series of policy for Zouhui-Ren’s attractting,identification and aftercare.Moreover,these policies kept altering with the changes of frontier situation and national power.Based on historical documents,the thesis try to obtain a more comprehensive,objective and dynamic understanding of Zouhui-Ren and related system.Besides the introduction for the significance,feasibility, research review,research methods and objectives,the thesis composes of four parts.The first chapter is the classification of Zouhui-Ren.By hackling the records of Ming Dynasty,define the concept of Zouhui-Ren,classify its category.Zouhui-Ren mainly lived in northern border areas of the Ming Dynasty.As been registered,they once divorced from the government by fleeing or captured.The second chapter is the attracting of Zouhui-Ren. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty,the government paid much attention to drum up Zouhui-Ren.After the Mid-Ming Dynasty, especially Jiajing and Longqing period,Ming government took many active measures to attract Zouhui-Ren. Thus the number of them increased greatly.In the late Ming Dynasty,the rise of the later-Jin led to a deteriorate situation in north-east frontier.And the attractting of Zouhui-Ren became inefficient and powerless. Hence, we cannot find their any record of mass migrations.The third chapter is the identification and aftercare of Zouhui-Ren. The procedures of identification included first examination,reexamine and check.Many government officials and organizations were involved,which had great relate with northern defense system.The next step was aftercare.It seemed that the Ming government was generous to Zouhui-Ren,though some policies were in plight.The fourth chapter is the historical position of Zouhui-Ren.This part focuses on their contribution to military and society,and tries to find some clues to explain Zouhui-Ren’s special identificational meaning from the different attitudes of the Ming government to Zouhui-Ren and persons who surrendered to Ming.The last part is the overall assessment of the Ming Dynasty’s Zouhui-Ren policy,and evaluate their effect to military,politics and national relation simplly.
