Through the analysis and inquiry based on every painting works that shows the features of water image in history, this paper shows the opinion that performance of waterscape can increase the creating elements in the flower-and-bird painting.The first chapter discusses the important meaning of water in Chinese culture from the thought origin. based on traditional thought, the cultural origin of water that stands for a great personality have been found. Drawing water is showing one’s own emotion. At the same time, exploring the origin of representing the water image, this chapter also states that water is always a kind of image that painters like to represent in the traditional paintings.The second chapter focuses on the aesthetic expression of water in the of flower-and-bird paintings and separately elaborates aesthetic charm of water from two convenient:style and form. In the expression of Chinese flower-and-bird painting in which conveying emotion is the main purpose, water has been painters’favorite theme. Flower-and-bird paintings can contain abundant moral and emotion, and water has the rich connotation of personality, so painting water in the flower-and-bird paintings can enhance the internal emotion and mood. At the same time,"impermanence", the character of water, can let painters shape arbitrarily to achieve the unified of the work and subjective emotion.From the point of view of creating, the third chapter discusses the significance of water’s representation for expanding the creating space in the flower-and-bird painting. After the painting method of the "literati painting" been excessively popular, the form of ink has no space for development. The water images can provides a new ideas on the composition of the flower-and-bird painting, which can enrich the beauty of artistic conception to the work. Besides, water could be any kind of visual elements--dot, line and plane--in the flower and bird paintings to enhance the integrity of the form of works.
