The phenomenon of the Independent curator has appeared in Chinese art field forless than20years, and it got attention in recent years. However it has a greatinfluence which can’t be ignored. The diversification of the art development requeststrongly that the art field can sensitively reflect the social and cultural issues. That’swhy the phenomenon come into being. The domestic curator is independent from thebeginning, their identity is composed of diverse forms, and they work in differentmeans independently. They have made great contribution to the domestic modern artand the art industry. At the same time, we can see that the regulation problem ofdomestic independent curator is coming out gradually, such as lacking of the systemregulation, confusing the standard of identification. What’s more, the art level of thecurator is different, all this problems are worth considering deeply.In this thesis, the “present age” is a concept of time, which refers in particular tothe time from1980s to the present and the "art" refers to the visual arts and thecomprehensive art, including the traditional and modern art forms such as painting,sculpture, calligraphy, photography, video recording, action and network. Theexhibition discussed in this thesis is mainly about the nonprofit art exhibition, thiskind of exhibition refers that in a certain space, the art works are made into groupsaccording to the theme and art forms. It is an intuitive way to transfer the concept ofthe curator and the information of the artwork through watching and participating bythe public. This kind of exhibition changes the forms frequently and keeps a shortperiod of time, it is different from the longtime and stable displays holding by themuseum and the gallery. The regulation of art exhibition in this thesis refers to themanagement system and operation regulation which are related to the art exhibitionproposed by the Chinese independent curator.There are three parts in this thesis. The first part elaborates the concept of theindependent curator, and the author discussed that with the coming age of the curator,it provides the chances to put up with the question about the identification of theindependent curator. The reason of the existence of domestic independent curator isdifferent from the western ones, so we should make their identity clear. The secondpart analyzes the regulation of the independent curator. It analyzes the current stateand the problems of the domestic independent curator in the view of regulatoryeconomics. There are three obstacles in the period of time referred in this thesis, itdiscusses the challenges faced by the Chinese curatorial industry, including the systemof the Chinese independent curator, the standard of the independent curator’s identityauthentication and the occupational qualities of the curator. The third part is based onthe analysis about the part of the well-known curators’ interview, the author concludesthe tentative ways to deal with the problem faced by the independent curator in theirfield.
