Content:Shanghai rise in the Qing Dynasty Tongzhi and Guangxu’s theme bird-and-flower painting, fresh and lively style. It broke the depressed situation in the mid-Qing Dynasty painting, Chinese painting revival again. The prosperity of this painting showing different characteristics, the screen seek change, to be creative, full of life and sentiment, do not abide by conventions. The most successful was undoubtedly Zhao Zhiqian, Xu Gu, Ren Yi and Wu Changshuo. And the rapid rise of industry in Shanghai, in order to meet the new public class and realize their own creative ideal, Shanghai painters often used for painting calligraphy and seal cutting technique, vigorous pen and ink, coupled with the bright colors, crisp beautiful picture. They focus on life In addition to painting "four gentlemen", also include fruits and vegetables, such as cucumbers, lentils, bamboo shoots, carrots, gourd, watermelon, lotus root into the picture. They added to the ancient bronze with fruits and flowers, form the Shanghai school specific of BOGUTU. Shanghai school painting is a watershed painting style between the ancient Chinese painting and modern Chinese painting. The painting style which is created by Shanghai school painting inspires the thinking in creation of modern traditional Chinese painting. It creates a new form of painting that inspired the creative thinking of modern Chinese painting. By learning and making research of Shanghai school painting, its open language of painting, stone pen ink form, large-scale-painting-composition and exploration of BOGUTU make profound effects on my painting works. It also provides theoretical foundation on the painting language of my graduation work.
