A Study Of Enlightenments For Impressionistic Painting Got From Shanghai School Of Painting

Shanghai school of painting arose in the end of Qing Dynasty, a peril period when Qing government corrupted while foreign powers carved up China. Under the impact of western culture which arrived in this social context, the unique art style created by painters of Shanghai school with their open concept, flexible spirit and profound cultural attainments, conferred the period a great transformation significance in history of modem Chinese painting.Oil painting art has been in China over one hundred years so far, however, that how to localize is always a question during its development. Localization is to make Chinese painting prosper on the basis of taking advantage of western oil painting, and only rooted in local culture, Chinese painting can realize unique national achievements. In this sense, there is a lingering impressionistic complex in Chinese painting. Back in the early twenties, Mr. Fengmian Lin proposed "To Reconcile Western Integration", and then the prototype of impressionistic painting was born. With artists’continuous exploration, impressionistic painting has become the main force of Chinese painting, but it still confront the challenge of how to integrate foreign art while rooting in own traditions. From the perspective of art communication, there are lots of significance in Shanghai school of painting’s development for impressionistic painting’s reference.The thesis is divided into five parts:Preface:to introduce the research status of Shanghai school of painting and impressionistic painting, purpose and significance of this research, and define the keywords in this paper. Part Ⅰ:to sort out the forming time and development process of Shanghai school of painting and impressionistic painting. Part Ⅱ:to come up with the core point of this paper, namely, the enlightenment for impressionistic painting’s aesthetic concepts got from Shanghai school of painting. The author will analyze in four aspects:aesthetic standards, human spirit, aesthetic experience, and national spirit. Part Ⅲ:to explain the influence of Shanghai school of painting on impressionistic painting’s style and language, and vitality of shapes, expressive force of lines, emotion and tension of colors will be analyzed. Part Ⅳ:To discuss author’s understanding of Shanghai school of painting with his won creating experience, and prospect the future direction of impressionistic painting.
