The Double Ninth Festival is one of the Chinese traditional festivals. It has a long history and rich connotation, deserves further research. It originated from the pre-Qin, after the evolution of the Northern and Southern dynasties, its folk custom activity has enrich the develop constantly. In the Tang dynasty, it was regarded as one of the three favourite festivals. It was popular with both upper class people and ordinary people, All kinds of festival activities had been basically perfected and showed some new characteristics.This article concentrated on the development of Double Ninth Festival. It is mainly divided into three parts, the first part mainly discusses the origin of the Double Ninth Festival, and its development in the South-north Dynasties period,which is influenced by many factorsThe second part focus on the new characteristics of Double Ninth Festival in Tang dynasty,and the causes of them,in order to investigate the development of the society in the Tang dynasty from another perspective.The last part based on poetry——the most prosperous literary form of Tang dynasty, discussing the artistic features of poetry about the Double Ninth Festival and its embodiment in the mentality of people.
