Maybe it is hard to know how Vermeer paint, what we know about the17thcentury paintings in Holland is mainly based on modern traditional technicand modern science analysis. Even the basic method could be occasionallysummed up, the way to make a special palette is given, however, the realpainting technic is passed by from master to disciples inworkshops(usually4to6people).Few historical records of the studiopractice could be handed down. There are no relates to Vermeer records.Vermeer spare no effort to explain the nature with his own specialskills, there are clues that convince us that Vermeer still used thetraditional method from the northern European painters, compared with ourtime, artists at that time used less colors; their work steps are moreobvious, Painters usually know which colors could not be mixed together, they rely on a restricted method to describe the nature more accurately, often time after time, while they have created the harmony which couldnot be describe with words.
