With the enhancement of national power, Chinese language is getting more attentions from the outside. More and more foreigners try to get touch with and have the sense to China’s national conditions and culture through studying Chinese that is one of the oldest languages in the world. Being as important as Chinese, English is the language that is most widely used around the world and the first choice language in most African countries. In china, English is listed as one of the obligatory courses from middle school to university. Moreover, CET4and CET6are becoming the standards to measure a Chinese student’s proficiency on English. Then our problems are:How is Chinese easily and efficiently taught to foreigners and made them more deeply understand Chinese people and culture? How is English vividly and visually taught to Chinese and made them smoothly communicate with foreigners and learn their advanced technology? All these problems bring the significances of contrastive studies between Chinese and English to light. There are too many experts and scholars like to contrast the two languages from the angles of phonological system, syllable, phoneme, phonetic changes, etc. In contrast to other researches, this article, in comparing and analyzing the vocalization of English and Chinese is trying to find an efficient way to enhance the teaching of these two languages.The article is composed of five chapters:introduction, Chinese-English vocalizations contrast, Chinese-English voice system contrast, Chinese-English phonetic teaching countermeasures, and epilogue.The introduction presents the origin, purpose and implications of the study as well as the current situations and developing trends in contrastive language studies in China.Chapter two presents Chinese-English vocalization contrasts, analysis and countermeasures. It looks in depth at how the breathing and vocal positions cause differences between the vocalizations; and results of vocal tests (random samples of American and Chinese speakers) support the premise of this study.The third chapter is about phonetic system contrasts and error analysis that are discussed respectively in two sections of Chapter three:(1) Firstly, with regard to the aspects of Chinese and English initial consonants one by one; analyzes the errors that are easily made by American and Chinese speakers and proposes corresponding teaching solutions. Secondly, this section also contrasts ten Chinese simple vowels to English vowels, analyzes the errors easily made and proposes solutions.(2) The second section discusses Chinese-English supra-segmental phoneme contrasts by comparing Chinese tones to English intonation and studying the errors easily made. Testing students’ production of tones and intonations supports the findings. Finally, the paper proposes corresponding solutions.The fourth Chapter introduces very useful teaching methods for Chinese-English phonetics.The last chapter puts emphasis on the importance of Chinese-English phonetic contrast, summarizes the advantages and disadvantages in order to partially instruct Chinese-English phonetic teaching and study.Contrasting and analyzing the two language phonetic systems, this article aims at finding practicable ways from the root of pronunciation and making Chinese and English complement each other.
