A popular university anthem could strengthen students’ sense of pride and belonging. It also could promote cohesion, and encourage teachers and students to unite and make joint efforts. By consulting data, the author gathered typical university anthem lyrics. The paper aims to analyze the language characteristics, master the laws and enrich the research of Chinese university anthem lyrics.With the object of university anthem lyrics in this study, this paper is divided into four parts:Part Ⅰ, introducing the research significance, status, methods and innovations.Part Ⅱ, the summary of Chinese university anthem. This part combs the culture history of university anthem in China, including its origin and development.Part Ⅲ, the language characteristics of contemporary university anthem lyrics. We divide university anthem lyrics into two periods:the modern times and the contemporary era. We will analyze the art of language in the Chinese university anthem lyrics and the reasons why people choose the classical Chinese to create anthem lyrics under the vernacular movement. The paper explores in a comprehensive way the lyrics of university anthems in terms of speech sounds, vocabulary and rhetoric.Part VI, inherit and transform:the comparison of old and new university anthem lyrics. Analyzing the status of university anthem lyrics, the existed problems and reasons, then propose something about university anthem lyrics.By means of reading university anthem lyrics and comprehend the language characteristics, we can master the laws of university anthem lyrics. The paper could offer some references and promote the creation of university anthem lyrics at the same time. This is significant important to enrich linguistic theories.
