In the history of our country, the Tang Dynasty was one of the most frequent periods when different nations communicated. The relations of the Tang Dynasty and Uighur had an important position. The military cooperation and conflict let us have a good perspective to know the relations of the Tang Dynasty and Uighur. The paper has studied military relations of the Tang Dynasty and Uighur by means of discussing specific events concerning military cooperation and conflict between the Tang Dynasty and Uighur in late Tang Dynasty (AD755to840).In the time of An-Shi Rebellion, the Tang Dynasty and Uighur reached a military cooperation for counterinsurgency. The aims of the Tang Dynasty were to make Uighur army stand in his side, recover the two capitals as soon as possible and pacify rebellion at the price of giving Uighur a few rewards and meeting their requirements of the robbery. During this period, the military relation between the Tang Dynasty and Uighur was mainly cooperation. Although the war of the Tang Dynasty and Uighur happened, there were no big impacts. After An-Shi Rebellion, military relation of conflict between the Tang Dynasty and Uighur didn’t change significantly. However, military relation of cooperation between the Tang Dynasty and Uighur had no developments. In late Tang Dynasty, Uighur had been committed series of atrocities in China, which made the Tang dynasty trust Uighur no longer. Recovery of national strength and adjustment of military and ethnic policies made that the Tang Dynasty could wrestle with the threats of Tubo and civil strife on his own. As a result, there wasn’t necessary to reach a military cooperation with Uighur for the Tang Dynasty. Tubo was the most powerful and main enemy of Uighur. Although Uighur and Tubo fought unceasingly, Uighur never asked the Tang Dynasty for help, which had an important relationship with Uighur national self-esteem and self-confidence. The strength difference of Uighur and Tubo was very small, so Uighur could single-handedly resist Tubo. This was the reason why Uighur didn’t ask the Tang Dynasty for military aid.In late Tang Dynasty, national strength declined, which made the Tang Dynasty’s lack of self-confidence. The Tang Dynasty mistrusted Uighur no longer, because The Tang Dynasty hadn’t enough faith in his own power. The Tang Dynasty was unable to effectively control Uighur, which made the military cooperation of the Tang Dynasty and Uighur stagnant. After An-Shi Rebellion, the Tang Dynasty could sequentially exist for more than150years owing to his pragmatic ethnic policies. The Tang Dynasty carried out a military strategy of defense in allusion to Tubo. Meanwhile, the Tang Dynasty united Uighur and Nanzhao successively, which made the power of Tubo down. After the strength of Tubo declined and couldn’t pose a threat to the Tang Dynasty, Uighur also suffered great losses in the military confrontation with Tubo. When Uighur and Tubo collapsed, the Tang Dynasty was gradually being disintegrated in the case of serious internal contradictions.
