There are a large number of animal words in the vocabulary system, which meaning is very rich and colorful. In addition to the animal itself represented by the generic meaning, many animal words, but also have a rich cultural implied connotation. We choose the animal words to be the object of the analysis and research, which has the more typical rich-meaning between Chinese and English, and the higher frequency in the dictionary.In the context of cross-cultural, the animal words in Chinese and English languages have the equal and unequal meaning of the points."Pig","Wolf","Fox","Ass","Cock","Bee","Parrot" and other words have the same or similar cultural meaning in Chinese and English languages. These animals are closely related to the humans, mostly as a metaphor reflecting the common moral point to different ethnic and emotional attitude, helping to promote the understanding and communication with the different nations, which is the basis of cross-cultural conditions. In this basis, we focus on the comparative analysis of the unequal meaning for animal words. The significance can be divided into three cases:Firstly, the indicating meaning of the animal words are same, while the cultural meaning are different; Secondly, the indicating meaning of the animal words are same, while the cultural meaning are vacancy; The last, the indicating meaning of the animal words are different, while the cultural meaning are same. For this equal and unequal meaning of the animal in Chinese and English languages, we take in-depth analysis of the cause of this phenomenon, which is influenced by the myth and legends, religion belief, Chinese homonym, the way of thinking and the aesthetic value between the different nations.As a mirror to reflect the culture, researching the animals’meaning for teaching Chinese as a foreign language has a very important practical significance. Based on the research of animal words in Chinese and English languages, we survey and statistic of the two sets of foreign language teaching,"New Practical Chinese Reader" and "Modern Chinese Advanced Tutorial" in use cases for animal words. Among them, the animal words in the "New Practical Chinese Reader" often seen in the foundation stage, mostly single animal characters; while the majority of cultural animal words appear in an advanced stage in "Modern Chinese Advanced Tutorial". According to the high-frequency animal words in "Modern Chinese Dictionary", we choose to focus on analyzing the "Horse","Tiger","Fish","Bull" animal vocabulary. Based on two of the more authoritative dictionary of the Chinese and English language, we contrast the meaning of these four animal-related vocabulary words. With the development of the language, the extending of animal meaning has a great change. People are no longer just use the generic sense of animal words, but in more cases, they tend to use the extending of animal meaning. The other animals appeared in the teaching material are "Cat","Mouse","Crane","Crow". The meanings of these animals are different in Chinese and English, which can be divided into two kinds of circumstances. The indicating means for "Cat" and "Mouse" are same, while the cultural meaning are different; and the indicating means for "Crane" and "Crow" are same, while the cultural meaning are vacancy.According to the animal words in the two sets of teaching material, we take in-depth analysis of the overseas students’ leaning of animal words. With HSK dynamic essay corpus and some materials accumulated by teachers in the class of Chinese as a foreign language, we take a statistics and analysis on the students’ learning cases. They tend to use the animal words with the meaning of itself, other the extended meaning of animals. The analysis of this phenomenon is good for the teaching in the future. Accordingly, teaching animal words should follow the principle of teaching and teaching methods mentioned in the article. As a result, it provides a reference and help to the teachers’ teaching and the students’learning for the animal words.
