In every Language system,vocabulary can contain abundant information and unique cultural connotation.Chinese has a long history and its vocabulary has been extending all the time with the development of society.There is plenty of cultural-added meaning in Chinese vocabulary,especially some animal terms,which contain the rich imagination of Chinese people,can be an epitome of Chinese culture and value.Some of the animal terms can be used in daily life frequently,it's quite easy for Chinese people to use,but very difficult for foreigners,therefore,if overseas students cannot fully understand the cultural-added meaning hiding behind the animal terms,they may suffer some problems like misuse of words,over-generalization,and negative transfer.More terribly,it can cause some unnecessary misunderstanding in cross-cultural communication.Therefore,the main purport of this paper is to explore the cultural-added meaning of Chinese animal terms as well as its second language teaching.TCSL circles advocate that we should combine language teaching with culture teaching in Chinese as the second language teaching.Some useful cultural-added meaning can be taught in culture teaching and vocabulary teaching.This paper is mainly about the teaching of the cultural-added meaning of Chinese animal terms,and includes two parts:the first part is the ontology research of cultural-added meaning,the other part is about the teaching of cultural-added meaning.On the whole,there are four chapters in this paper.The first chapter is introduction,which includes the main reason of selecting the topic and research status.The main content of the second chapter is about the cultural-added meaning of Chinese animal terms.It includes the definition of cultural-added meaning and its classification and characteristics,the reason why it arises.The primary of the third chapter is to screen out both Chinese and English animal terms which have cultural-added meaning,and then compare and analyze them by the method of contrastive analysis.The forth chapter is the teaching part of cultural-added meaning.In this part,based on the characteristics of the Chinese animal terms,several teaching principles such as principles of cultural,phase,practice and individual instruction are suggested,meanwhile,several problems that need attention during teaching practice have been raised.At the end of this chapter,the teaching plans have been designed,which include a culture teaching design and a vocabulary teaching design of advanced comprehensive course.And the last part is the conclusion,it contains the conclusion of this paper and some difficulties in the process of this research.
