Chen Jieqi, who was a literatus in Qing Dynasty, contributed a lot on epigraphy inthat certain times as well as modern researches of art history. Aiming as restoringthe panorama of friendship between Chen and his fellows in his late years andillustrating his special method of rubbing, I have researched his letters, which hadbeen collected and published in two editions. Both of them were named FuanChidu, one of them was printed by Hanfenlou in1919,12volumes, and another inthe Republic of China (1912-1949),5volumes.At the frist place, I would introduce several friends of Chen, especially WuDacheng, who talked about epigraphy with Chen, which concreted the main topicof his letters. Moreover, many details of his activity on epigraphy would bedepicted, and there were four aspects:1) ideas that both collecting and rubbingshould be exquisite;2) access of collecting antiques;3) trade on rubbing;4)scholars’addiction on ancient scripts.In the second chapter, collecting the recorded documents, I would summary theway of rubbing, especially the new method Chen used--photography and therubbing in its integrity.
