"Qingliu" was an attractive political phenomenon during Tongzhi and Guangxu Time of Qing dynasty. As a phenomenon studied by researchers, attentions should be paid to friends and workmates related to "Qingliu". However, those subjects remain beyond historians’research scope.Li Wentian was a close friend of "Qingliu". While he was considered as a famous government official and a celebrity. Research on Li Wentian is difficult to proceed as a result of document insufficiency. The conclusions in the few literatures available are contradictory. They either applaud conventionally or criticizes Li Wentian as a reactionary.By sorting out and analysis of public and private literatures, the writer focus the study on the following three issues:routine life, social relationships and political attitude of Li Wentian; the impact of expertise in Chinese traditional medicine and epigraphy on his political life in Beijing; his firm objection to the rebuilding of the Old Summer Palace. It aims to disclose a real Li wentian under the huge historical background through a new perspective and pathway. Finally, it is expected to unfold richer and more complex aspects of "Qingliu".
