Throughthis way，Xu Bing activates tradition with contemporary. Frombook from the sky，square word calligraphy tobook from the ground，the character of characters，XuBing expects and presents the relationship between word and culture，culture andperson，through studying differences between the culture of China and the west，which are symbolized by word.Communication is the start and the end of Xu Bing’s art，which is the basicfunction of word.The relationship between words and images becomes the mostimportant question of Xu Bing’s art，based on the communication of words and theprincipal of pictograph of making words.I cut to my thesis through the basic pointmedium of word and three lines：word，medium，the public，to figure out therelationship between word and culture，the passivity of people，and the impact of rigidword on culture and thought.
