Arhat painting creation has a long history, and the style of Kunluntang Museum’s"Sixteen Arhats " seems like amateur works, the author also did not leave any mark onthe painting, so the center of this paper is to find out the source of their schema, andjudge the era and region’s relegation. And to talk about the image we must first understandthe occurrence and development of Arhat faith. So the first part of the paper focuses onArhat faith’s unfolding. The second part describes two initial styles combing the historyof the Arhat painting——Guan Xiu and Zhang Xuan style, and their spread in thedevelopment of future generations——Jin Dashou style and the Japanese Arhat paintingsin Kamakura and Muromachi period. Then we identify all Kunluntang version’s sourceschema. The third chapter analyzes the difference between Chinese and Japanese Arhatpaintings from the style and techniques, thereby estimates the Kunluntang version iscloser to the Chinese style, especially the Palace Style of Ming Dynasty. Then start fromthe detail, especially on the landscape of screen to reach a further promote conclusion oftheir era. In the end analyze of the Kunluntang version’s two possibilities——as Chineseand Japanese painting. But because of the lack of Japanese Arhat paintings’ data, thisarticle only preliminary determine its greater likelihood of Chinese works, dating in the15th century and a half to the16th century.
