Achimugua, a traditional Weixi Lisu people’s dance, is listed as the first batchof national intangible cultural heritage for its distinct artistic feature. This dance hasits unique advantages. More and more people are willing to know this art, but theirunderstanding of its spiritual connotation is limited. Besides, development andprotection on this dance is inadequate. This shall, frankly speaking, owe to thepublic’s misunderstanding in relations of “to effectively protect intangible culturalheritage” and “to actively apply for intangible cultural heritage”. An ambiguousdemarcation of the two conceptions results in active application rather than properprotection and development in intangible cultural heritage. The success of this casealso exerts myriad reflections and concerns from the public. The thesis starts fromthe artistic feature, spiritual connotation and cultural reflections upon this dance, indicates the development and existing issues of Achimugua and explores how toensure sustainable development of national culture, create vigorous art value andthen to provide a more profound reflection upon the value and function of starting“intangible cultural heritage” projects.
