Patchwork is a technique that designers sew pieces of clothing according to their own willingness; meanwhile, as a common method of decoration, what impresses us most is the beauty formed by its color, texture and the picture on it. When there is a change in its structure or physical form, it will gain new forms of beauty. This way of beauty formation through scattering and recombination not only inspires the designers a lot, but also leads to creation of a new shape. Dispersed structure is a methodology of shape variation, guiding the way that patchwork beauty is formed. So related study has practical significance. This thesis studies the formation of the form of beauty of patchwork with six chapters. The first chapter provides an introduction of the objective, significance and the research status of the subject. The second chapter reviews the history of patchwork and analyzes the relationship among patchwork, collage and the perception of post-modernism design. The third chapter describes the concept and technique of dispersed structure and analyzes the similarities and differences among patchwork, montage and deconstruction, which is the distinguished part of this thesis from previous studies. The main body of this thesis goes from the fourth chapter to the sixth chapter. By using a lot of cases to analyze the manifestation of dispersed structure in patchwork, the thesis proves that dispersed structure is a method to form the beauty of patchwork. Then it explores the application of dispersed structure in patchwork through analyzing the application requirements and scales of different shapes. Finally, the thesis studies the possibility of dispersed structures based on my personal design.
