From8th century to10th century, it is an important period to the generating transformation of Buddhism in china. Dissemination is the theme of Chinese Buddhism in this time. This paper, which based on the temples as objects of study, researches the forms and ideology of the Buddhism dissemination in8th century to10th century. It adopts the idea of integrating the study of the history of society and the history of ideology, in order to explain the Buddhism ideology’s epochal characters and the influence on Chinese society. This paper includes the following contents:The first part is a summary of the ideology and social background from8th century to10th century. This paper introduces the basic characters and historical missions of Chinese Buddhism and society at the beginning of the8th century. In addition, it researches the temples’distribution and fiction.The second part is about the dissemination’s form and content in temples, which point at Buddhist monks. Starting from the education content of a monk, it includes elementary education, religionary regulation’s education, professional education, which chooses temples in the south of the Yangtze River, official temples and Chongfu temple in Taiyuan as the examples separately. Moreover, it refers to the particular education method of the Chan sect through awakening.The third part is about the dissemination’s form and content in temples, which point at the secular society. It includes three styles’rites. The first one is the state Shinto rite to rulers; the second one is the Bodhisattva disciplines rite to the literates and officialdoms; the third one is the rite of exploding the Buddhism texts, which refers to the common people. The section also talks about some ceremonial rites.The last part sum up the Buddhism dissemination’s ideology characters and historical influence from8th century to10th century, which possess the characteristic of convergent, autonomic, secular and practical. It deeply affects Chinese society, ideology and Buddhism.
