The paper intends to study on the banquet events and banquet poetry of the Middle Tang Dynasty from the perspective of a specific era background. What’s more, this paper explores characteristics of banquet poetry and its cultural implication and humanistic spirit, beginning with a study on the evolution of intellectual ethos and its relations with banquet events in the Middle Tang Dynasty. In the first chapter, the paper reviews development of banquets and banquet poetry before the Middle Tang Dynasty. The second chapter focuses on the evolution of intellectual ethos on the basis of introducing the political, economic, social, cultural and other aspects situation in the Mid-Tang dynasty. The third chapter discusses the status of the amusement banquet poetry in the Mid-Tang Dynasty. The amusement banquet poetry is divided into palace amusement banquet poetry and literary amusement The former mainly displays rich atmosphere of politics, the latter becomes an instrument for the literators to play for fun. In the fourth chapter, the paper discusses the status of the festive banquet poetry in the Mid-Tang Dynasty. It is equally divided into palace festive banquet poetry and literary festive banquet poetry. The former focuses on politics not holiday expression. The emperor’s poems attach importance to the government administration, while the courtier’s poems display grace and patriotism. Literary festive banquet poetry is characterized with righteous and serious style in this period. There is rare description about words and drinking games. It is quite different from amusement banquet poetry. The fifth chapter studies on the farewell banquet poetry in the Mid-Tang dynasty. The paper divides the farewell banquet poetry into palace farewell banquet poetry and literary farewell banquet poetry. The former aims to create a harmonious relationship between the emperor and the courtiers, The latter displays the sadness differing from the free and easy emotion attitude in the flouring period of Tang Dynasty. However, the farewell banquet poetry shows boldness and generosity, it is mainly related with the way of Chinese people doing things in a fine line."Poetry can be grouped", No matter what kind of banquet poetry, its main task is to create harmonious interpersonal relationship.
