The nature of language, mankind's communication tool and information transmitter, is a product of human society. Language changes as the society develops, which is reflected by new linguistic phenomena. Lexicon, an active element in languages, carrying abundant information, directly or indirectly, conveys messages of human society through dynamic changes of phonemes, word-formation, and meaning.Top words, fashion words of high frequency, are widely used and universally accepted. Top words reveal the issues and things coming into the notice of people, especially people's life style and thinking model in specific contries or regions. This thesis mainly probes into the Chinese and English ten top words, analyzes and compares their different features in word-formation, content, and meanings to find out similarities and differences, and then seeks for the new trends and the interaction of the two languages in the environment of informationization and globalization.This thesis will be developed in five chapters:Chapter One will be focused on the object of study and the meaning of topic selected; Chapter Two will reveal Chinese and English ten top words and their word-formtion and development; Chapter Three will be carried out to make comparison, perceive the contrast between these top words and discover their inner rules; Chapter Four, based on the previous one, will be committed to explore development trends of each language and Chapter Five is conclusion.
