British "return" The Whole Story Of The Boxer Indemnity

The boxer indemnity was imposed by the western emperors unfairly and it was the ferocious and obvious robbery.However,the emperors began to invest in China under the name of returning the surplus of the indemnity in order to maintain and expand their interests in China.The UK,one of the countries getting much money,was important for China to study the relationship between China and the UK.And it is important and inevitable to study the whole process of returning the indemnity and the number of the money,which is significant in terms of historic meaning and research value.The UK made the decision to return the money,which was out of special motives and reasons both in the political and economic aspects.Among all the countries which decided to return the money,the UK portion underwent longest time. And in this article,the reason was analyzed and made the process of returning the money more clearer.As for the whole process of returning the indemnity,there are many people from various fields disputing about the use of the money.In terms of the time of this disputing,it can be divided into two peaks of time:1924,1926.From1922-1925,they argue about the right of the use of the money.From1925-1931,they argue about who had the right of owning the money.Just at that time,they don’t fight directly,instead they manage to persuade the delegation to adopt their suggestions. After the foundation of Nanjing government,China was faced a situation that all the country should be built. At last,the then government made the decision that money should be used for industry and then used money to revitalize the education.Finally the boxer indemnity was used both for industry and education,it was due to the fight between different people from different fields.This paper mainly studies the whole process of returning the boxer indemnity.,in order to analyze what role the state policy and national policy paly in this process.Then work out what lessons we can learn from this and provide some suggestions for the diplomacy nowadays.
