Taiwanese Study Group Party Movement

"Party Organized Movement" in Taiwan is a weak point in the research of Taiwan.The people of Taiwan whose basic rights were deprived by Kuomintang (KMT), so they carried out a series of democratization movements against the dictatorship by KMT, which defeated and retreated into Taiwan and declared the Martial law. On one hand, the establishment of the Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) had push forward the process of democratic politics in Taiwan. On the other hand, it prepared the term for making "Taiwan independence" of DPP in the name of democracy.The Reunification of Taiwan with China after Japan was defeated in1945.The hope of Taiwan compatriots’that return to the motherland was obliterated by the dictatorship of the KMT. The KMT government declared the Martial law which aggravated the fascist dictatorship in May201949. Taiwan changed into freedom and democracy regime until Chiang Ching-kuo, the Chairman of the KMT, announced that the "Enforce Martial Law" was formally abolished in July15,1987. It has taken38years for the democratic movement in Taiwan.This thesis analyses the reason and the significance of "Party Organized Movements" by a series of historical events which were happened in the period from "Declare Martial Law" to "Abolish Martial Law in Taiwan. The background, the process, the result and the effect of "Party Organized Movements" are fully and objectively analyzed based on the historical materials."Party Organized Movement" is a milestone in the political development history of Taiwan. It not only ended the one-party dictatorship governance of the KMT and made the party politics has come to fulfillment, but also pushed the society of Taiwan on the threshold of its "age of democratization "."Party Organized Movement" has a profound impact on the current political arena of Taiwan.The penetrating analysis of the "Party Organized Movement" has a great practical significance in the research of the mainland China political trend of Taiwan; it also affected the change of Taiwan compatriots’national identification with mainland China and the development of the "Taiwan Independence Movement".
