The party politics is developing with the process of the democracy and modernization of politics. Firstly, the political parties are the body in which can realize democracy and to some extent it create democracy. Modern democracy can't act without the political parties. Secondly, the party politics has a result which is contrary with democracy in the process of its work. The American political parties have the features that the common parties have. Although party politics plays an active role in the development of American democracy, its process and result causes some phenomenon which is non-democratic.Some phenomenon displayed non-democratic in the process of American party politics. This phenomenon has manifested in itself mainly in the key role that the money plays in the election, the relations between the parties and voters is becoming estranged drift apart, the election is controlled by the few elites. What caused such phenomenon include informal donation, divided and weak parties, the rise of the middle class, both parties' tendency to catch-all-party to catch the majority of the voters.Some phenomenon displayed non-democratic in the result of American party politics too. When the political parties are in office, the non-democratic phenomenon is the following: "pork barrel"; the parties play important roles in the executive, legislative and judicial authorities; the parties are establishing identification with the government. What caused such phenomenon include the factionalism of the parties, the election provides an channel to the parties to be in office, both parties form a league which represent the monopoly capitalist class to control the government.American party politics plays a "double-edged sword" role in democracy. Firstly, we must acknowledge the non-democracy in the process and the result of American party politics. Secondly, we recognize that American party politics is vivid in modern democracy system in discussing the active role which the parties play in democracy and its reform.
