After retreating to Taiwan, the Kuomintang of China (KMT) didn’t submit to its defeat, instead, they raised the policy of "reconquest of the mainland" and attempted to regain their govern of the mainland..The raid contributing to "reconquest and reunion" leaded by the government of KMT reached a peak from1949to1969. Entering the1970s, the KMT endured great difficulties both because of the losing of UN seat and its aging leader Chiang Kai Shek. KMT put much emphasis on the construction of Taiwan instead of reconquering the mainland as a result. The death of Chiang Kai Shek made chiang ching-kuo reconsider the counter-mainland policy. With his propose of unifying China with the "three principles of people", the thoughts of "reconquest of China" phased out totally.The methods of literature and analyses are adopted in this thesis to research the facts and regularity of the " reconquest of mainland". The background and cause of this policy are firstly investigated. Then the theory and practice as well as the reaction of the communist party of China and attitude and policy of America are sort out with the order as follows:the middle of1950s, the late1950s and the1960s. Finally, this thesis do summarize and analyze the law and feature that the KMT using for20years to reconquer the mainland in the perspectives of Taiwan and the People’s Republic of China.The exploration of reconquest plan of KMT can help to understand the conter-mainland policy of Taiwan in the early years as well as the policy’s changes."Peaceful reunification" and "One country, two systems" are the basis for the People’s Republic of China to solve the Taiwan issue. Though this principle had been challenged both by "independence forces in Taiwan" and international strengths, the Chinese government still made the promise of not using military force in the20th century. The research about Taiwan’s "reconquest of the mainland " in this thesis helps to learn the history and regularity of the "mainland-Taiwan" military confrontation, it also leads to a complete understanding of Taiwan’s military strategy, deployment, politics and diplomacy preparation for the war, the action of the USA and other foreign forces are comprehended at the meanwhile, helping to end the state of hostility across the Taiwan Straits and sign a military peace treaty.
