Citizenship education is beneficial to the cultivation of civic consciousness andthe formation of proper values, furthermore, it can improve citizens’ behavioralcompetence. Citizenship education, as a hot issue studied by academic communities,has become an important way to foster qualified citizens. Meanwhile, the citizenshipeducation on the elementary education stage has become an important base forstudents’ socialization, fostering qualified citizens and structuring the civil society. Inrecent years, with the continuous improvement of our civic society construction andmore and more attention we paid to citizenship education, citizenship education on theelementary education stage in our country have progressed a lot, but compared toother countries’ full-fledged citizenship education systems, there are still manyproblems and shortcomings in ours. Therefore, it will be of very important theoreticaland practical significance to study the citizenship education on the elementaryeducation stage.First of all, This dissertation analyses the current situation of our country’scitizenship education on the elementary education stage and then points out that thereare four main problems or shortages, namely: first, there was no enough attentionpaid to the citizenship education on the elementary education stage; second, thecontents of the curriculums of the citizenship education are out of style; third, thereare many students have been sick of the current teaching methods; fourth, studentsstill do not have enough civic sense. Next, there will be a thorough analysis about themain causes of the four problems mentioned above, namely: the imperfect system, thebad supportive measures, the faulty contents, the inflexible methods and theunsatisfactory environment and so on. Finally, six specific measures will be offeredfor strengthening the citizenship education on the elementary education stage in ourcountry, namely: first, more attention should be paid to the importance of thecitizenship education on the elementary education stage; second, a more perfecteducational system and supportive measures should be established; third, the contentsof our citizenship education on the elementary education stage should be improved;fourth, the methods for citizenship education should enriched; fifth, the environmentfor our citizenship education on the elementary education stage should be optimized;sixth, foreign successful experiences should be borrowed.
