With the end of the bi-polar confrontation after the Cold War, the international system is also undergoing important changes. The possibility of the World War breaking out essentially disappears; while the regional ethnic, religious and territorial conflicts covered under the bi-polar pattern quickly show up, and further evolve into extreme conflict behaviors in some areas. Some political non-state actors, appearing in the post-Cold War, become the main perpetrators of the extreme behaviors. With the impact of economic globalization, the unfair distribution of benefits between the strong and the weak have been aggravated due to the disparity of strength and living environment among different international actors. Some weak countries and regional groups have been marginalized, facing survival crises. In recent years many extreme ideologies and organizations have emerged in the field of International Relations, which usually regard extreme behaviors as the first choice or even the only way to achieve political goals. The thesis attempts to explore the "soil" of the extreme behaviors, with the selected Islamic extremist in the Middle East as its objectives. Through interpreting the reasons of their selection of extreme behaviors, this thesis hopes to provide a new revelation:when eliminating such extreme behaviors, people can not rely solely on the use of force; instead, they should find a new perspective, that is, thinking from the perspective of the identity of the vulnerable groups and conflict strategy. In the first part, the thesis gives a detailed definition to the Islamic extremist and their extreme behaviors in the Middle East. Meanwhile, it makes a distinction between the similar concepts and analyzes the objectives and means of the extreme behaviors. Part two and part three analyze the influencing factors of their selection of extreme behaviors in terms of objective environment and subjective factors, including the political, economic and institutional aspects, as well as the use of "asymmetric strategy" in vulnerable groups and conflict. The cases of strength-defeating weakness become more and more popular with the help of "asymmetric strategy", which makes the extreme behaviors act as a means of lower-cost and higher efficiency, and also stimulates the extremists to take the extreme behaviors as their preferred means for conflicting. This thesis deems that in the case of certain objective environmental conditions, the identity of the vulnerable groups and the "induced" role of the conflict strategy should become the focus. Through the above analysis, the next part is the revelation for the Islamic extremists in the Middle East to give up extreme acts:the Middle East Countries need both traditional factors and new factors. They should not only focus on the construction of a fair international system and the surrounding environment but also attach importance to the spread of their weak identities and "asymmetric strategy". Only in doing so, can the Middle East Countries protect their right channels to express their political views in a peaceful way.The extreme violent behaviors represented by Islamic extremists in the Middle East are the main form of regional conflicts in the post-Cold War, which strongly threaten the peace and stability of the world. Through interpreting the influence factors of the selection of the extreme behaviors (especially in the term of the disadvantaged’identity and conflict strategies), this thesis aims to provide a reference perspective on how to solve such extreme behavior problems in the future.
